Welding: Introduction to Soldering and Brazing

Instructor: Edmund Hunte, Local 725 Journeyman

Description: This class provides an introduction to safe brazing and soldering practices following theory covered in the UA Soldering and Brazing textbook. Students will learn best practices for safely soldering and brazing, types of heating equipment, and proper joint preparation. Students will have the opportunity to practice and will be asked to complete a copper project including soldering and brazing joints. Projects will be pressured tested for leaks and students will learn how to repair leaks.

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Know the difference between the soldering and brazing process.
  • Be able to identify the proper use of soldering and brazing filler metals and fluxes.
  • Demonstrate correct joint preparation assembly.
  • Identify the various types of heating equipment used for soldering and brazing.
  • Demonstrate safe soldering and brazing practices.

Registration closes: Wednesday, April 1, 2026, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: You are required to attend each course in its entirety. You will receive your certificate and credit upon successful completion of the course.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org. 

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Continuing Education Units: 7 hours

YOUR SAFETY:

Dress code: For your own protection, participants are required to wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Long pants: Shorts are not allowed.
  • Long-sleeved shirts: Short sleeved shirts are not permitted.

PPE: Bring the following and wear them at all times in the shop or when working with your hands.

  • Safety glasses, and work gloves.
  • Plus any additional safety-related PPE or equipment provided onsite, as directed by your instructor.

Failure to comply will result in being removed from class, and forfeiture of your class deposit.


Time

This is a one-day class taking place on Saturday, April 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
