Description: This learning path focuses on the components and operation of chillers. Learners will be able to identify each part of a chiller system, how it operates, and how to diagnose common faults that arise. Students will be enrolled in 4 online modules that consist of 1-3 hrs. each through our LMS system Interplay and Canvas.
Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will:
- Understand the basic components and operation of water chiller systems.
- Compare compressor types — centrifugal, screw, reciprocating, and scroll — and their design features.
- Differentiate between air-cooled and water-cooled condensers.
- Recognize components and functionality of absorption chillers.
- Identify various chiller system types and their refrigerants (primary vs. secondary).
- Explain the refrigerant cycle and flow, including phase changes and system states.
- Interpret the Pressure-Enthalpy (P-H) Chart and relate it to system components and performance.
- Distinguish between high-side and low-side components in the chiller system.

Registration closes: Wednesday, November 12, 2025, or upon reaching max class size of 10. Attendance Policy: Registrants will receive login information on Monday, November 17, 2025, and will have until Friday, November 21, 2025, to complete the class. Registrants will be required to complete the 4 modules to receive credit. No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org. Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits. ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
