Description:This class will cover critical topics for drivers in the trades, such as distracting driving, vehicle backing safety, controlling your speed, pre trip, aggressive driving, safely towing a trailer, hazardous driving conditions and vehicle incident response. Students will be enrolled in 8 online modules that consist of 1-2 hrs. each through our LMS system Interplay and Blackboard.
Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will:
- Learn best practices for preventing distracted driving.
- Be able to conduct a pre-trip inspection and identify the parts and components of a vehicle that should be inspected, including how to secure interior and exterior cargo before transit.
- Define stopping distance, related factors such as load weight and weather conditions and its components.
- Understanding the various consequences associated with speeding and how to take preventative measures to mitigate the risks of speeding. •
- Identify the different types of trailers and their uses, factors that affect towing and learn safe towing practices.
- Identify examples of aggressive and road rage behavior.
- Learn defensive driving tactics and how to de-escalate situations in which they are exposed to aggressive driving. Identify the hazards associated with confined spaces.

Registration closes: Wednesday, June 18, 2025, or upon reaching max class size of 10. Attendance Policy: Registrants will receive login information on Monday, June 23, 2025, and will have until Friday, June 27, 2025, to complete the class. Registrants will be required to complete the 8 modules to receive credit. No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org. Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits. ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
