Refrigeration: Introduction to Recovery and Charging Refrigerant

Description: This course will provide introductory training on evacuating and recovering refrigerants in both residential and light commercial applications. Students will have the opportunity to practice handling refrigerant recovery and charging scenarios during shop time. 

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Confidently evacuate and recover refrigerant using best practices, including EPA-approved equipment, including recovery tanks, digital scales, and vacuum pumps.
  • Demonstrate how to put a system under a vacuum and understand the required evacuation levels during recovery.
  • Learn how to pressure test a system using nitrogen.
  • Execute proper leak checking techniques
  • Understand how to properly charge a system and demonstrate using proper charging methods.

Registration closes: Friday, October 17, 2025, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: You are required to attend each course in its entirety. You will receive your certificate and credit upon successful completion of the course.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Continuing Education Units: 7 hours

YOUR SAFETY:

Dress code: For your own protection, participants are required to wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Long pants: Shorts are not allowed.
  • Long-sleeved shirts: Short sleeved shirts are not permitted.

PPE: Bring the following and wear them at all times in the shop or when working with your hands.

  • Safety glasses, and work gloves.
  • Plus any additional safety-related PPE or equipment provided onsite, as directed by your instructor.

Failure to comply will result in being removed from class.


Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
