Chillers: Introduction to Centrifugal Chiller Overhauls/Teardown

CEU Hours: 24 hours over 3 days

Description: This course provides foundational training appropriate for safely tearing down and rebuilding a centrifugal chiller. Students will learn how to conduct a centrifugal chiller overhaul, including hands-on training on how to disassemble and inspect chiller components for wear and abnormalities prior to reassembling and returning the system performance back to factory condition efficiency. Students will participate in tearing down and rebuilding a centrifugal compressor using proper rigging techniques.

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Identify proper tools needed to initiate a centrifugal chiller overhaul and tear down.
  • Demonstrate proper rigging techniques for teardown and rebuilding of a chiller.
  • Distinguish the various sections of a centrifugal chiller.
  • Understand how to thoroughly inspect components, replace critical parts as needed. Identify and assess areas of wear such as gaskets, O-rings, covers and seals. 
  • Practice organizational procedures for removing each chiller section during teardown. 
  • Reconstruct motor, refrigerant piping and oil system.
  • Assess clearances for all centrifugal parts.
  • Reassemble centrifugal chiller.

Registration closes: Thursday, July 17, 2025, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: You are required to attend each course in its entirety. You will receive your certificate and credit upon successful completion of the course.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Continuing Education Units: 7 hours

YOUR SAFETY:

Dress code: For your own protection, participants are required to wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Long pants: Shorts are not allowed.
  • Long-sleeved shirts: Short sleeved shirts are not permitted.

PPE: Bring the following and wear them at all times in the shop or when working with your hands.

  • Safety glasses, and work gloves.
  • Plus any additional safety-related PPE or equipment provided onsite, as directed by your instructor.

Failure to comply will result in being removed from class.


Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
