Controls Systems: Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)

Description: Changes in technology in the HVAC industry have led to increasing prevalence of the us of VDFs in both residential and commercial applications. Upon completion of this class, students will be able to confidently diagnose and troubleshoot VDFs and conduct startup and commissioning of new VDFs. Discussion will include and overview of the operation of each component and subcomponent of the VFD. Students will learn how a VFD functions and understand the wiring and programing of a VFD, including practice performing VFD startup, programming, and wiring during shop time. 

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Be able to identify the primary purpose of components located within the variable frequency drive.
  • Verify proper operations of components.
  • Diagnose deficiencies and troubleshoot VFDs.
  • Start up and commission new VFDs.

Registration closes: Wednesday, July 24, 2025, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: You are required to attend each course in its entirety. You will receive your certificate and credit upon successful completion of the course.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Continuing Education Units: 7 hours

YOUR SAFETY:

Dress code: For your own protection, participants are required to wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Long pants: Shorts are not allowed.
  • Long-sleeved shirts: Short sleeved shirts are not permitted.

PPE: Bring the following and wear them at all times in the shop or when working with your hands.

  • Safety glasses, and work gloves.
  • Plus any additional safety-related PPE or equipment provided onsite, as directed by your instructor.

Failure to comply will result in being removed from class.


Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
