Description: An Air Handling Unit, or AHU, plays an important role in a commercial HVAC system. In this course, we cover the foundational information you would need to know when working with AHUs. Specifically, we will talk about what AHUs are, how they operate, and the main components. Then we will briefly go over some common problems that occur and their indicators.  Last, we will go through some of the different types that you will encounter.

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • The definition of an Air Handling Unit (AHU) and its function in HVAC systems
  • The basics of how an AHU operates and air modes
  • Key components and their function
  • Several indicators of component failure
  • Unit differences in location, use, and layout
  • Unit differences based on level of customization

Registration closes: Wednesday, July 8, 2026, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: Registrants will receive login information on Monday, July 13, 2026, and will have until Friday, July 17, 2026, to complete the class. Registrants will be required to complete the entire class to receive credit.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
