Description

Pumps: Introduction to Centrifugal Pumps & Pump Repair

Instructor: Skill Mill Instructor

CEU Hours: 8 (2 modules)

Eligible for County Journeyman License continuing education? No

Description: This course covers how pumps are used to move liquid-primary water- through hydronic HVAC systems. You will learn the basic mechanics and hydrodynamics by which a pump moves water with a focus on centrifugal impeller pumps, including the components and operation of these pumps in commercial hydronic HVAC systems. Attendees will also learn how to diagnose and fix faulted pumps. With a focus on centrifugal pumps, we learn the symptoms of the most common pump failures. We get hands-on experience repairing those problems using a 3D simulation program. We learn a repeatable process so that we can diagnose problems reliably. We learn the common risks of pump repair so that we can fix problems safely.

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will:

  • Identify the different types of pumps and their functions in a commercial hydronic HVAC system.
  • Explain how pumps operate in a commercial hydronic HVAC system.
  • Demonstrate safety procedures related to centrifugal pump repair.
  • Learn how to apply a systematic diagnostic process for centrifugal pump failures
  • How to diagnose and repair common faults in centrifugal pumps
