Safety: Heat Stress Recognition and Prevention

Description: This course will discuss how extreme heat affects the body, heat-related stress, the illnesses and disorders associated with it, and each disorder and illness’ signs and symptoms. Learners will describe how to prevent heat-related stress and treatments associated with it, as well as various control measure methods, safe work practices, and documentation of incidences. 

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Identify what heat-related stress is and why it is important to minimize the risk.
  • Define extreme heat and identify its effects on the body.
  • Identify the hierarchy of heat-related illnesses, as well as their signs and symptoms.
  • Identify the environmental and personal risk factors of heat-related illnesses.
  • Identify preventive measures, control measures, and safe work practices to reduce the risk of heat stress.
  • Identify when and how to perform heat-related stress first aid.
  • Determine when the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires employers to report heat-related stress incidences and proper means to document these incidences.

Registration closes: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: Registrants will receive login information on Monday, July 20, 2026, and will have until Friday, July 24, 2026, to complete the class. Registrants will be required to complete the entire class to receive credit.

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
