Safety: Introduction to First AID, CPR and AED Training

Instructor: Edmund Hunte, Local 725 Journeyman 

CEU Hours: 8 hours

Description: This class, led by a UA-certified CPR instructor, will train students how to respond in a cardiac or first aid-related emergency. Students will be taught how to deliver initial medical emergency procedures using a limited amount of equipment to perform a primary assessment and intervention while awaiting arrival of emergency medical service (EMS) personnel. Upon completion of class, students will be more confident in their ability to apply First Aid, including CPR and AED use appropriately in a variety of situations. In addition, the group will learn important heart health information that can be used to keep themselves and their loved ones safe and decrease risk of heart disease and other heart issues.

Objectives: Upon completion of this class, students will: 

  • Be prepared to quickly assess medical and injury-based emergencies and determine appropriate first aid treatment.
  • Participants who successfully pass the end of course exam will earn their First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Be prepared to provide basic first aid or CPA in a safe, timely and effective manner in critical situations.
  • Perform proper life saving techniques using an automated external defibrillator (AED)

Registration closes: Wednesday, April 15, 2026, or upon reaching max class size of 10.

Attendance Policy: You are required to attend each course in its entirety. You will receive your certificate and credit upon successful completion of the course.

Class Certification Policy: Purchase of the $10.00 First AID and CPR Certification is required to attend the class. Failure to purchase the certification will result in the cancellation of your class registration. 

No-Show/Cancellations Policy: Please be aware that cancellations made less than two days before the class begins, or failure to attend, will result in a $50.00 fee. All cancellations must be submitted via email to ceu@arpec.org

Continuing education: Participants who attend each course in its entirety will receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

YOUR SAFETY:

Dress code: For your own protection, participants are required to wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or open-toe shoes are not permitted.
  • Long pants: Shorts are not allowed.
  • Long-sleeved shirts: Short sleeved shirts are not permitted.

PPE: Bring the following and wear them at all times in the shop or when working with your hands.

  • Safety glasses, and work gloves.
  • Plus any additional safety-related PPE or equipment provided onsite, as directed by your instructor.

Failure to comply will result in being removed from class.


Pricing

ARPEC’s training, funded via the labor contract’s hourly contribution, requires no registration fee or deposit. However, if you cancel within two days before the start of the class, or do not attend the class in full, you will be charged $50.00. If that occurs, that invoice must be paid in full before you can register for future classes. As an employee benefit trust, ARPEC is legally required to be a good steward of the trust's assets.
